FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is preconception counseling?
Preconception counseling is a personalized consultation that helps you optimize your health before pregnancy. It includes reviewing your medical history, lifestyle factors, medications, and reproductive goals to reduce risks and increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy.

2. Who should consider preconception counseling?
Anyone planning to conceive can benefit, especially those with chronic medical conditions, a history of pregnancy complications, advanced maternal age, or concerns about fertility. It’s also helpful for those wanting guidance on nutrition, supplements, and overall pregnancy preparation.

3. When should I schedule a preconception consultation?
Ideally, 3–6 months before trying to conceive. This gives enough time to address health concerns, adjust medications, and make lifestyle changes that can improve pregnancy outcomes.

4. What happens during a preconception consultation?
We review your full medical, reproductive, and family history, discuss your current lifestyle and medications, identify potential risks, and create a personalized plan. This may include labs, vaccinations, or referrals to other specialists as needed.

5. Can preconception counseling be done via telemedicine?
Yes! Telemedicine allows for a comprehensive consultation from the comfort of your home. Many patients find it convenient, and it’s fully compatible with personalized care and coordination with other providers.

6. Is my information secure during telemedicine visits?
Absolutely. All telemedicine sessions use HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy and confidentiality. Your health information is protected, and no data is shared without your consent.

7. What should I do to prepare for a telemedicine appointment?
Choose a private, quiet space with a strong internet connection. Have your medications, health records, and any recent lab results handy. Make sure your device’s camera and microphone are working properly.

8. Which states do you currently serve, and will you expand?
Currently, we accept patients from Alaska (AK) and Virginia (VA). As the practice grows, we plan to expand to additional states, so please check back for updates or inquire about upcoming availability in your state.

9. Will preconception counseling improve my chances of having a healthy pregnancy?
Yes. By identifying and addressing potential risks early, we can help you optimize your health and give your future pregnancy the best possible start.

10. How long is a typical consultation?
Initial consultations are usually 50 minutes, with follow-ups around 30 minutes as needed for ongoing care and coordination with other specialists.

11. Do I need any tests before my consultation?
Not necessarily. Some patients may benefit from labs, imaging, or genetic screening, which we can discuss and plan together during your consultation.
